UFO’s – we all have them. Gather up your unfinished objects, and let’s get them finished. Knit or crochet – let’s clear them out. That will leave room for luscious new yarn and fun new projects.

Round up your Unfinished Objects, Works In Progress, Projects in Time-Out, and any other projects not in your current work rotation.

Divide all of these projects, whether many or few, into the following categories:

I want to finish it.

  1. I like the pattern and yarn. I have the correct needles or hooks.
  2. I might need some help with a technique.
  3. I think I will like the finished item.
  4. Why did I set this aside?

I don’t want to finish it, but I like the yarn

  1. I’m not too fond of this pattern.
  2. The yarn is a good color for me.
  3. I like the way the yarn feels when I work with it.

I don’t want to finish it, and I’m not fond of the yarn.

  1. Why did I buy this yarn?
  2. It’s not my color.
  3. I may be allergic to this fiber.
  4. I’m going to throw away the pattern.

The reason doesn’t matter; they are to help you decide which category your project fits into.

What to do with projects in each of these categories?

  1. You will organize your projects. (This order may change from time to time.) Bring one or more of these projects to a Finish It February Event and work on it. Work on some of them at home. The goal is to progress with your projects in Category 1.
  2. Pull out the hooks and needles and salvage the yarn. Rip it out, make it into a hank, use your favorite method to smooth it out, and put it back in your stash. Steam is an excellent way to unkink the yarn.
  3. Either give away the yarn to a charity or to a friend who may like it. Please don’t give it any more of your time.

At the Finish It February events, we will work on completing projects to have room in our stash for new yarn and patterns. The goal is to have completed items we can be proud of. Then, we can move on to new projects with pretty new yarn and new patterns.
