Cestari Sheep and Wool Company is a small family-owned and operated American manufacturer of knitting and crocheting yarn. We have a farm in Augusta County, Virginia where we raise sheep for wool that we use in our yarn. We also source wool from reputable ranchers throughout the United States. All of our sheep and wool products are always grown and processed in the United States. Our cotton products are grown and processed exclusively in Virginia. Why no Super Wash Merino?
Cestari has been asked from time to time if we will make a super wash wool yarn. The answer is and will always be that we have not and will never make super wash wool yarn. Here is our reasoning. To make super wash wool yarn involves the use of harsh chemicals and procedures that literally transforms the structure of the wool in such a fashion as to destroy the inherit characteristics of the wool. Cestari views this as no longer being a natural fiber but a man-made yarn product. Cestari has made a conscious decision to be true to the natural beauty of wool and not super wash any of our wool yarns.
